Is sports massage for me?Sports massage is for everyone, from Olympic athletes and casual gym goers to office workers and full time parents. Regardless of your lifestyle you will recieve a high quality treatment adapted to your specific needs using a variety of techniques. These techniques include: Soft Tissue Release - A lock and stretch to unstick congested tissues. Neuromuscular Technique - Locating trigger points and loosening them. Myofascial Release - Used to free up connective tissues that surround muscles, a deep method of increasing functional movement.

What should I wear for treatment? In order to do my job treating you as efficiently as possible I need to be able to access the muscles being treated. I recommend that you wear clothing that can be removed or repositioned for the part of the appropriate part of the body. Loose fitting shorts are best when treating legs. When treating the upperbody it's best for males to remove their tops and for females to wear a back fastening bra so that the upper back and shoulders are easily accessed, sports bras can be awkward in this situation.

How often should I get treatment? This entirely depends on what you were getting treatment for in the first place. Some problems respond best to short, frequent treatments, for example 30 minutes every three to five days. Those people wishing to support their body during training may find one hour each week or fortnight best for them. After your first session I will be able to provide clearer advice as to when your next treatment should be.

Does sports massage hurt?Sometimes sports massage can be a little uncomfortable due to having tight or overworked muscles. This pain is only ever a 'good' pain and during treatment I will be guided by your feedback and if you're uncomfortable please say so and a different approach will be taken. Post massage soreness is not uncommon after working on specific tissues. Tenderness up to a day afterwards is normal and shows that your body is healing. Common post massage advice includes warming the area, drinking lots of water and gentle but progressive stretching. If you are worried in any way about being sore, or have an important event within a few days please let me know, this is not a problem to work around.
